What is Intarsia?

Intarsia – The art of intarsia has been around for centuries. However, in the last 40 years or so, due to various artists, intarsia has again gained popularity. Intarsia is a form of inlaying. It is a woodworking technique whereby a variety of different types and thicknesses of wood are used to achieve color and depth variations. Every piece of wood must be precisely cut, shaped, sanded, fitted and finally glued together to create a (mosaic) picture. Intarsia art on right has 69 different pieces of wood.
